Why you need a Battery Balancing System

The individual cells in a battery pack are rarely an exact duplicate of all the cells in the battery pack.

In actual practice, when a pack of batteries reaches a specified charge cutoff voltage then the charger will shut off. If one cell in a pack reaches that voltage before other cells reaches a full charge it will cause the charger to shut off – prematurely denying the balance of the pack a full charge.

Conversely, when the weakest cell in a pack reaches its discharge cutoff voltage it will show as the discharge point and shut down the pack prematurely – thereby denying the user the balance of energy the other cells have stored.

These battery equalizers prevent this from happening. This yields up to 30% more power and will extend the life of the battery pack.

Benefits:

§ Quick and easy installation

§ Keeps your batteries voltage difference within 30mV!

§ May increase the lifespan of your battery pack by 2-3 times by preventing the batteries from being overcharged or over-discharged

§ Helps prevent lead-acid battery vulcanization

Features:

§  High-frequency pulse, dynamic battery voltage-amperage balancer

§  Simple wiring and high efficiency

§  Works with all charger amperage and voltage inputs

§  All 1S Single Balancers come with the interconnecting and battery wiring

§  The lead-acid option comes in 1S Singles of 2v or 12.8v each

§  0.5m/1.5ft maximum suggested wire length for all the multiple series balancers. (35m 4S, 5S, 6S, 8S)

§  Idle Current Draw is <50mW

§  Series modules

·       Modules may work with 3, 4, 5, 6, or 8 batteries in series (AKA 3S, 4S, 5S, 6S, or 8S)

·       Does not come with the wiring to connect to the batteries

Example:

A 144v pack of 48 cells,

20 in the front and 28 in the back

can use 8S+8S+4S in front

and 8S+8S+8S+4S in the back.

BMS Fundamentals Explained

Note: This balancer emits a very high-frequency tone that some people can hear if they are within 10 feet.

Note: Please check wiring diagram for how to connect these modules or contact us to avoid making mistakes during installation.

Here are several ways to make sure they are installed correctly:

1.   Measure the voltage of the batteries with a multi-meter to see if all the batteries voltage is normal.

2.   Listen. If the balancers are connected correctly, they will produce a high-frequency sound. Because the sound is quiet, you need to get close to the balancers. The more balanced the batteries are, the smaller the balance current it will have, and the softer sound they will make and vice versa. If they are connected the wrong way, you won’t be able to hear the sound.

Why should I use the balancer?

1. Keeps your batteries voltage difference within 10mV!

2. Keeps your batteries safe always. No overcharging or over-discharging.

3. Prolongs your battery lifespan 2~3 times

4. Very simple installation

5. Low price. You pay a small amount of money to protect your battery. Compare to the cost of replacing your expensive lithium battery, the balancer is very cheap.

6. Fast delivery. 1~2 business days after payment arrival.

How does the balancer work? How does it protect batteries?

This diagram tells you how the balancer works.

Each battery is compared to a cup.

Each balancer is like a pump. With the pumps, all the cups will have the same level of water.

The balancers are connected in parallel to the batteries.

They won't affect the charging or discharging of batteries.

Long live my batteries!
I have four LiFePO4 12V 200Ah batteries configured in a 48V series connection. These balancers ensure that when charging, all batteries remain equally and evenly charged. Having well balanced batteries ensures better performance and longer life for my investment. These balancers are so important and they are a great value for the price. I highly recommend them to anyone with series connected batteries.

Balancers for Lithium
Have used these balancers for many projects. They have worked particularly well for large battery designs of 20kWhr+ Units work well, keeping the cell within a few millivolts. The young workers complain about the high frequency noise from the balancer.

I have several of the single cell lithium units that work very well. I picked up 8 of these to keep my aging 48V bank in balance (8X T-1275 in 4S2P config). A couple of the batteries in the string are weak at about 0.3V below the others. These definitely work to reduce that. They can't overcome the difference between batteries with 75% of their rated capacity and those in the 90%+ range, but they definitely keep them closer than they were. When I check them, it's rare that they're more than 0.1V out.

Captain
These seem to work OK, if not ideally. The start to balance when the cells get about 50mv apart, & they bring them in to about 25mv. Balance current seems to be proportional to voltage difference, so not much as they get close. The website blurb says 6A, but I think they copied this entry from the full battery balance modules, as the blurb that comes with these units says they only balance at 2A max. Still, the price isn't bad & while it doesn't perform as well as the website claims (therefore only 4/5) they seem to get the job done eventually. -- Jon, s/v Ocelot

12v1s balancer
Far better then any other balancers i have tried along the way. (Active and passive). My 48kw bank balanced from .77 v varience to within .013volt in 3-4 days. Even under heavy charge and discharge they remain relatively equal. A far better option then the good old capacity matching game.
